With the French session on Salbris, fourth and penultimate one of the season, the WSK International Series 2007 has reached its final stages. On the international circuit on the outskirts of Paris, exciting races have taken place, which have led to a reshuffle of the previous classifications.
Particularly, in the KF2 category two new winners Camponeschi and Tiene have earned the limelight. Their victories have unsettled the previous balance in the classifications. In the KF3, the classifications have even been turned upside down, since the favourites have been overtaken by the outsider drivers: a swapping of placements that leaves the last weekend of the season, schedule on July 1st in Lonato, as very hot indeed. The only driver who has surely the victory in his pocket is Jonathan Thonon, whose victory in KZ2 is now mathematically sure.
SWAPPING OF PLACEMENTS IN KF3.
Relaxed as a proper Englishman, but smiling as if he had Mediterranean origins, Jack Harvey (Maranello-XTR-Dunlop) has flied at the top of the classification after winning both finals in KF3. Bad luck, instead, for Italian Matteo Viganò (Birel-XTR-Dunlop), who has suffered a series of unexpected difficulties in the two races: the team MGM driver, has gone down from being the provisional leader to a third placement, knowing, though, that he will play at home during the Lonato weekend. Very good the performance of Finnish Aaro Vainio (Maranello-XTR-Dunlop), who has competed with Harvey the victory until the very last meters and eventually, achieving a well deserved second placement. Fourth “ace pilot” in the running to the victory has been Alessandro Kouzkin (Tony-Vortex-Dunlop), who has perhaps not obtained what he wished for.
LUXURY OUTSIDER IN KF2.
It has been a wonderful day for Flavio Camponeschi (FA Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone) and Felice Tiene (CRG-Parilla-Bridgestone), in their first victory in WSK. While these were leading in KF2 each in their two finals, Belgian Yannik De Brabander (Maranello-Parilla-Bridgestone) was delayed by some contacts during the race. The Maranello driver could maintain the leadership in the classification at the price of an unstoppable climbing in the first race, followed by an important second placement in the following second final. Similar problems were in store for Spanish Javier Tarancon (FA Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone), only sixth in the Final 2, but still running for victory, along with his fellow Spaniard. Both drivers will be the only to be competing against De Brabander for the final round.
WSK 2007 HAS ITS FIRST KING. Jonathan Thonon (CRG-Maxter-Vega) has conquered the first WSK “crown” of 2007: a series of five victories culminated with his success in the Final 2 in Salbris, have ensured to the Belgian driver. The victory one session in advance. The success of CRG was completed by Potuguese Armando Parente, who led the first final during a breath-taking race against Thonon and by American champion Gary Carlton, who obtained a second and a third placement, proving he is more and more at ease in the European season.
The sounds and the colours of Salbris, its exciting races and the interviews to their protagonists will be broadcast on RaiSport (satellite and terrestrial) during the usual 40 minutes’ special TV, on Friday June 8th at 17:30. More reports on Odeon Motori (on Odeon TV, Tuesdays at 20.05 and Wednesdays at 13.30) and on Stop and Go, on satellite UnoSat - Sky 862. Fridays at 21:30.
