The "20th Andrea Margutti Trophy", the classic international race, is amongst the most prestigious and well-loved appointments of the karting calendar. The race is disputed over 18-22 march 2009 in the new location of the “7 Lakes Track" at Castelletto di Branduzzo (Pavia), after having had to leave the historic circuit at Parma following the 17th edition. From this year, to mark the importance of the event, the "Andrea Margutti Trophy" has obtained recognition from the International Federation as an "FIA Authorised Series".
Amongst the new features which mark this 20th edition, worth noting is the entry of KZ2, manual change category, which replaces the KF1 and which therefore goes alongside the two other usual international classes KF2 and KF3, associated with the youngest and promising drivers at world level. Together with these two youthful categories is thereby introduced the ‘queen’ of classes, KZ2, which has always been an arena of battle at international level for the most expert and seasoned karting drivers, who will now also enrich the "Margutti Trophy" with a concentrated offering of european and world champions. For the record, a manual change class was already present at the "Margutti" in 1991 and 1992 with the international 125, and winning victories then were respectively the two multi world champions Alessandro Piccini and Gianluca Beggio.
The "Andrea Margutti Trophy", in its long history dedicated to a minor champion gone before his time, has always counted on the participation of the best drivers in the world, from F1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella, winner of a good 4 editions of the Trophy (1990, 1991, 1992 and 1994), to the other F1 driver Robert Kubica, making a mark in 1999 in the 100 Junior, and the current karting World Champion Marco Ardig̣, competitor in 1999 and 2006 respectively in the 100 ICA and Formula A categories. Last year the Trophy was awarded to the Englishman Gary Catt in KF1, the Czech Zednek Groman in KF2 and our own Ignazio D'Agosto in KF3.
For the next edition of the “Andrea Margutti Trophy" the maximum number of entries accepted will be 80 for KF3, 80 for KF2 and 50 for KZ2. Signups will have to be made by sending an official form to Parma Karting ASD, Via Emilia Ovest 239b, 43100 Fraore (Parma), no later than the 18th February 2009.
