The races that have taken place last weekend on la Conca International
Circuit in Muro Leccese have doubled the Series’s central core. Before the two events on the French circuit of Salbris (June 3rd) and on the Italian circuit in Lonato, Brescia (July 1st) will determine the final classifications, in La Conca there have been several drivers who have made a remarkable jump ahead, which gives us a preview of what is likely to be a “hot finale”. The outside temperature too, during the weekend just gone, has notably raised compared to the previous sessions in Sarno (Italy) and Zuera (Spain), which has increased the effort of drivers and mechanics.
The big drivers teach that championships are won also thanks to placements and not just to victories in the races. Matteo Viganò (BirelXTR) has shown us he learned this lesson well, by grabbing his second place in both finals to rush towards the top of the classification. The former leader Alessandro Kouzkin (TonyVortex)
had to stop in both races, due to pushes that he had received. Viganò could, then, begin his catching up, that led him initially behind
“Giaguaro Nero” (TonyVortex), amazing Italian driver who won the first race and was a big protagonist in the second. The subsequent final has been dominated by Finnish Petri Suvanto (MaranelloXTR),
who at the start, from his second line snapped in leading position. Spanish Marc Otero (FA KartVortex) with his third place has concluded a quite rewarding weekend; likewise Ricky De Donno (CRGPCR),
the promising driver from Maglie, Italy, has gained from his “home”
environment, a good seventh place.
Aniello Smarrazzo, from Naples (FA KartVortex), and Spanish Miki Monras (MaranelloParilla) have dominated the podium, alternating each other in the first two positions of the two finals. Smarrazzo, after winning the first race, has attempted a rush in the second race, yet half way Monras sped up to duel with him. The confrontation resulted in the victory of the Spanish driver, now third in the classification,
while Belgian Yannik De Brabander (MaranelloParilla) and Spanish Javier Tarancon (FA KartVortex) had to retrocede. These, while are still in first and second place, have been penalised by an unfavourable start in back position.
As foreseen Belgian driver Jonathan Thonon (CRGMaxter) has carried on his march for the final victory, which bears now the clear signature of the CRG team: after Thonon’s easy victory in the first final, the second race has been dominated by his team mate, Lithuanian Kazimieras Vasiliauskas, the first driver from his country to win in
an international karting event. It was an unluckly day for Davide Forè (MaranelloMaxter): the four times world champion has left the Final 2 due to a break down of the engine while he was in full run for the leadership. The race weekend in La Conca will be enjoyable this Friday 18 th May on Rai Sport, satellite and terrestrial digital, with a 40 minutes report beginning at 5:30PM.
