Kohtala Sports / Haase to win EC qualifying in KF3
Published by Bas Kaligis 16 juli 2008 09:39 - Print | | Kohtala Sports, the official Haase racing team in Finland, lined up for the CIK European KF3 qualifications with 4 drivers on the grid.
KARTTUNEN showed immediately to be one of the drivers to beat, being the fastest one in free practice, qualifying on pole on Friday, proceeding to win heat races and setting up best lap time in one of the heats.
The Haase driver won the pre-final clearly showing no intention to leave the top of the podium and confirmed his leadership in the final pulling away to another victory by 1.18 seconds.
The excellent performance is the result of the many tests made during the season aimed to find a good combination for the race also thanks to a superb Haase chassis, perfect for KF3.
ANTTILA did not make it to qualify for the European final, despite his 18th time trial, his third position and fastest lap time in the second heat and second position in the other two heats. He started the first of two finals in 8th position but in the first tight corner he was forced off the circuit and his race was over. In the second final he started 33rd and, within a handful of laps, his brilliant and impressive drive allowed him to be 13th position. Entering one corner too fast resulted in touching the protection tyres and spinning 360° and nothing could be done to avoid touching another driver and being out of the race.
HELISTEKANGAS started the second final in 21st position and drove an excellent race passing under the chequered flag in 5th position.
