Harvey heads to Spain for European qualifying showdown
Published by Bas Kaligis 9 juli 2008 23:58 - Print | | Kart racing champion Jack Harvey heads out to Spain next weekend for what will be the toughest weekend of his season so far, to qualify for the European Championships.
The 2007 European and newly crowned Asia Pacific Champion is aware that a good result at the qualification event will put him in a strong position for the finals later in the year. However, is going into the event with making the finals, with victory being a bonus over the weekend.
“It’s definitely a big meeting for me in Spain,” he admitted. “Although I only need to be in the top 28 to get into the finals later in the season, a top result will put me there as one of the favourites. I won the qualifiers last season in KF3, so I’d certainly like to repeat that again now I’m in the KF2 class, but I know it won’t be easy,” he added.
The Alpinestars backed factory Birel Motorsport racer has had a superb run of results in the last couple of months, with the CIK FIA Asia Pacific title opening his title account for 2008. He followed that up with victory in the latest round of the Winning Series of Karting (WSK) too and is hoping that his form will continue after some fantastic testing pace over the last few weeks.
“We had a really good test last week and know that there should be more to come when we get out there for the actual event. When you take to the track against your opposition it raises the game that extra level and after a reasonably long break since the last race I’m ready to get out there and drive,” he said.
“Obviously I want to go out and win, but the most important thing is to make sure I qualify and see what results come out of the weekend. It would be great to go into the event with the number one plate on the kart as the top seeded driver though,” he added.
Jack will take to the track in the middle of the week for final testing and free practice, before the event gets fully underway on Friday. |
