Total domination by HRS Motorsport in Euro Challenge
Published by Bas Kaligis 26 juni 2008 11:32 - Print | | Round 2 of the European Rotax championship was another brilliant outing for the competitive HRS Motorsport team at the challenging ProKart Raceland circuit in Wackersdorf, Germany recently.
The most outstanding victory seen for some time at the series in Junior Max went to the HRS Motorsport’s Japanese driver Ryuuya Fujie. The current World number two was the fastest in his class from timed practice to take pole position and unbeatable in every race following.
"TOTAL DOMINATION!!!" team boss Tristram Oman said. "Our young up and coming star Ryuuya Fujie drove a flawless meeting winning all three heats, pre-final and final to finish the round with maximum points.
“It was a very strong meeting for our other rising young drivers Curtis Roberts and Matthew Swanepoel, both showing great speed. Our senior European Champion Ben Cooper had a good pre-final finishing second but a mid-race collision meant for a finish outside of the top 5 in the main final.”
Unfortunately for HRS, Ben Cooper’s podium hopes diminished in the final after starting on the front row and looking as if he was in with a good chance of taking the race lead. He now sits 3rd in the overall drivers standings.
The luck was definitely not with team driver Cristiano Morgado in heat three Saturday, after running at the front in the previous two races that day, when he was unable to avoid several other karts fighting for places at the start. It ended his weekend’s racing and he was forced to retire from Sunday’s finals.
"Our former Max World number one Cristiano Morgado had possibly one of the worst crashes in the DD2 race I’ve seen in Karting, but thankfully he was able to walk away just a little dizzy and shook up" explained HRS’ Tristram Oman.
The succesfull British HRS Motorsport squad is preparing for the third round in Sosnova, Czech Republic.
