Superkarts in French F1 Grand Prix program at Magny Cours
Published by Bas Kaligis 19 april 2007 15:26 - Print | | The French Motor Sports Federation, the organiser and promoter of the French Grand Prix, is delighted to announce the addition of a spectacular form of motor racing to the grand prix weekend programme on 29th/30th June and 1st July 2007.
Superkarts will be on the track at Magny-Cours during the French Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend. The FFSA, the organiser of the event, is adding this very spectacular category to its already full programme that includes rounds of the GP2 Series, the F3 Euroseries and the Porsche Supercup, for the weekend of 29th/30th-1st July 2007.
Superkarting appeared in Great Britain in the seventies. The sport quickly gained popularity in northern European countries, the USA, South Africa and Australia. Faced with this surge of enthusiasm the International Karting Federation (CIK/FIA) soon began to organise international championships that included France almost immediately. The winner of the first French Superkart Champion in 1982 was Michel Trollé in 1982.
The presence of this very spectacular category provides a marvellous opportunity for the Magny-Cours spectators to discover one of the many branches of karting, the first step on the ladder leading to Formula 1. During the 3 days of the grand prix weekend several karts will be on show beside an information booth in the very heart of the village. Young drivers and those doing their apprenticeship can find out how to access this branch of motor sport plus the training programmes available.
The French Superkart Cup will provide a lot of cut-throat action on the track during a weekend that offers the spectators a festival of motor sport for their pleasure.
