An ever growing number of entries, forcing some teams to be turned down, is becoming a characteristic of the Nivea for Men Endurance Challenge races held at the Kartdrome. The race on 22 & 23 February will be no different. Booking early is becoming a must for teams wanting to contest in the popular series.
Kartdrome manager David Terrien said, “The start and first couple of hours of are always very interesting. A big grid, several very serious teams will be battling out for top honours and I believe the early stages will set the tone of the race. Spectators are welcome and the entry is free. There will be food and refreshments available for sale at the venue. For people who have wondered what karting is about this will be an ideal time to find out more.”
Predicting a winner of before each race is virtually impossible with several highly competent teams doing battle. Terrien on predicting the outcome, “Very difficult as much can happen in 24 hours. There are several teams which can do it. Factors that will come into play in deciding the outcome include consistent fast laps, efficient pit work, rapid driver changes, no penalties and of course well thought out strategy by the captains. Actually all the racing elements that apply to major 24 hour races like Le Mans apply to the Nivea for Men Endurance Challenge events. In October last year the race was won on the very last lap, probably one of the closest finishes in a 24 hour event anywhere. Anything can happen in 24 hours of racing.”
Title sponsor Nivea for Men have become synonymous with the Kartdrome endurance event a fact that is greatly appreciated by Dubai Autodrome Chairman Saeed Khalfan, “Our partnership with title sponsor Nivea for Men and the Kartdrome has stood the test of time and is now engrained in the fabric of Dubai sporting events. Their enthusiastic and professional support has made this exciting concept a success and we intend this relationship to continue into the exciting future which is in store for our venue.”
The 1.2km CIK approved circuit at the Kartdrome features 17 corners to test driver's skills, tunnel and bridge to add to the excitement. The expertly designed circuit can be divided into two smaller circuits of 720 metres and 525 metres each. This challenging circuit affords maximum safety to all drivers and spectators and is equipped with a complete set of flood lights to offer perfect viewing for night time racing. During races, 24 pit garages are ready to ensure that each team has a private area for servicing. Above the pit garage are several multi-purpose rooms, including a timing room and a race control room equipped with CCTV cameras covering every corner of the track.
