As from today, Dave Blom has changed his karting brand. The talented karter from the Dutch city of Lochem, who was the 2010 BNL Champion in the Rotax Max Juniors, will race in the 2011 season as a works driver for Formula K. Behind this young and ambitious Italian karting brand are some impressive partners such as three-time world champion FIA GT1 Andrea Bertolini, Roberto Ninzoli, Nunzio Annovi and Pietro Corradini.
Dave Blom recently had an outstanding test session on a Formula K kart under the supervision of Cash van Belle. This test, in combination with the professional approach of the Italian Formula K and the good long-term vision, made Blom decide to switch from Intrepid to Formula K. “I was surprised by the great test in the Formula K. The kart was sharp as a razorblade.” told Blom, who is also employed as a works driver. He has to bring success for the team in the Rotax Max and needs to test the material in order to develop the kart.
“It is a nice challenge but also a strategic choice. This was a choice with a long-term vision. Formula K wants to build the brand and there will be a lot of possibilities. The team has a very professional approach. It is looking good and I am having great expectations. Also the people behind the project are great for my career”, added the youngster. “The last few years, I had good time with Intrepid, but now I need to start with a new challenge. Martijn Reuvers will of course remain my personal mentor and mechanic. Our cooperation is a long term thing. I am excited and let’s make something happen!”
The Formula K kart distinguishes itself from the competition with a different livery that has a beautiful colour scheme. “The Formula K is different in terms of colours: blue, black and the carbon look. Their clothing is also nice, with a proper Italian style.”
Dave Blom will be driving for the Formula K works team and this means an intensive schedule. Besides his activities as a testdriver for the Rotax Max, he will compete in the Rotax Racing Days from Chrono Karting, the BNL Series and the Rotax Max Euro Challenge. Also planned are the CIK FIA World Championship U18 and the European Championship KF3. In short a busy, but interesting schedule.
